Our Cozy Apartment
03:52
|
|||
First steps over the threshold
Hang your shirts next to mine
Dress this drab living room with
Lavender linen fair and fine
Bring your mother's old dishes
I'll get a couch from my folks
Our first cozy apartment
Babe, I just want to keep you close
Can't spare one rusty penny
We can't afford a TV
So I read you Dostoyevsky
You read Tolkien to me
I write my songs in the bathtub
You cheat at cards, yes I know.
Here in this cozy apartment,
Babe, we're too young to grow old
I sit on slow city transit
you ride your bike into the wind
I’m sweating over this deep-fryer
You’re teachin' children how to swim
Cops and drunks in the alley
keeping us up every night
Safe in our cozy apartment
Bathed in warm candlelight
Mornings are making you seasick
I chalk it up to the flu
But there's a miracle growin'
We're gonna need another room
We'll look back when we're older
And treasure each moment we knew
Our love's a cozy apartment
I'll live forever here with you.

Restless
04:03
|
|||
We are restless 'til we find our rest in You
Rolled behind a stone 'til Your light came shining through
Heartbroken, but now our hope has been renewed
All of our yearnings find their home in You
Stumblin' around 'til they lay us in the ground
We toil our lives away
We are fragile, fragmented in every conceivable way.
And we wouldn't know grace if it stared us in the face
We grind our souls to the bone
We could do it on our own
but we’ll find ourselves all alone
We are restless 'til we find our rest in You
Rolled behind a stone 'til Your light came shining through
Heartbroken, but now our hope has been renewed
All of our yearnings find their home in You
Anxious and Naive
We scramble to achieve
We leave no stone unturned
We are striving for things we've already earned
Oh, digging our own wells
Diet pills and magic spells
and on our story goes
And while our discontentment grows,
Joy is right under our nose.
We are restless 'til we find our rest in You
Rolled behind a stone 'til Your light came shining through
Heartbroken, but now our hope has been renewed
All of our yearnings find their home in You
All of our yearnings find their home in You

Picture of Jesus
04:18
|
|||
It hangs above my altar
Like they hung him from a cross
I keep one in my wallet
For the times that I feel lost
I feel lost
In a wooden frame with splinters
Where my family kneels to pray
And if you listen close
You'll hear the words he used to say
Chorus:
I've got a picture of Jesus
In his arms so many prayers rest
I've got a picture of Jesus
And with him we shall be forever blessed
Forever blessed
Forever blessed
Now it has been spoken
He would come again
But would we recognize
This king among men
There was a man in our time
His words shine bright like the sun
He tried to lift the masses
He was crucified by gun
And He is a picture of Jesus
In his arms so many prayers rest
He is a picture of Jesus
With him we shall be forever blessed
Forever blessed
Forever blessed
Some days have no beginning
And some days have no end
Some roads are straight and narrow
And some roads only bend
So let us say a prayer
For every living thing
Walking towards the light
From the cross of a king
I long to be a picture of Jesus
In his arms so many prayers rest
We long to be a picture of Jesus
With him we shall be forever blessed
Forever blessed
Forever blessed

Dark Days
03:35
|
|||
We've been down,
We've been broken.
We've seen times like this before.
Cowering like kittens in some dark corner.
Wary of the knocking at the door.
We've been frayed around the edges
And our faith is wearing thin
We will rise on these flood waters
We'll make it through Dark Days again
I've been surrounded
by dreams and visions
Of which I can not make any sense.
You've been going through the motions, tryin' to keep it together
Wondering when this storm shall end.
But my eyes have seen the Glory
of the coming of the Lord
His strong arm shall guide and keep us
We'll make it through Dark Days for sure.
This starless night,
I pull you closer
Oh my sister and my friend
We've had our share of scrapes and failures
There's no need to dwell on them
So we look to the horizon
for the light of a new sun's rays
take my hand now, we'll stand together
‘till the end of these Dark Days.

Grace
04:34
|
|||
Striving for the answers
in fighting for your streets of gold
Hope you're not forgotten
You wonder if you've killed your soul
I've heard the words of judgment fall,
but not from the One i know
It falls down on me
It falls down on you
Grace falls free
The proud feel the need to work the loom
But grace falls free
Holding up to heaven
the winnings of your plow
Look into the poor man
Show him what he must do now
You've got all the answers
but he's got a book that shows him how
It falls down on me
It falls down on you
Grace falls free
The proud feel the need to work the loom
But grace falls free
Think about the river
how it always flows
They're still digging in the desert
but that's not where this river goes
It's filled with all the living
and it quenches every wanting soul
It falls down on me
It falls down on you
Grace falls free
The proud feel the need to work the loom
But grace falls...

Walk in the Way
03:13
|
|||
It's not about insulation
It's not about protecting ourselves
We can't just circle the wagons
And wait for God to sort it all out
We draw deliberate lines in the sand
Keep away everyone who won't meet our demands
And miss the face of Christ in every woman and man
Oh brother, this isn’t what He had planned
It's not about medication
It's not about feeling better
We can't just put on that cross
Like it's a comfy old sweater
We numb ourselves so we won't feel any pain
Can’t sense the struggle of the blind and the lame
It's time to open our hearts up again
To the hard work of redemption and learning to walk The Way.
What about self-donation
What about giving ourselves
What if our preservation
Is just a way of refusing to help
We cannot wave these picket signs anymore
Time to start mending hurts we've long left ignored
And not give up ‘til all creation’s restored
This is what it means to walk in the way of the Lord.

“Leave your bags at the door”, he said.
“We give no quarter to brokenness here.
It’s not that we mean to be cold or insincere
We just can't let the darkness in”
So I turned around and excused myself
I’m looking for a place where I can find some help
Take the plastic smiles, put ‘em on the shelf
We’re not fooling anyone
Chorus:
Hey, I got lost against a blue sky
We sit around and wonder why
nothing ever changes
But you and I were made for more than smiles
Honey, we don't live in the house with the sunflowers.
Man of Sorrows that's who He was
Poured out His life for each of us
Homeless, He laid His head in the dust
There is no hurt He hasn't felt
And if we would claim to walk in His way
We must expect our share of rain
It falls on the righteous just the same
as anyone
Chorus:
Hey, I got lost against a blue sky
Potlucks and apple pies
and nothing ever changes
But you and I were made for more than smiles
Honey, we don't live in the house with the sunflowers.
We stared across the table tonight
Between a dripping tap and a burned-out light
What we've got ain't perfect. Hey but it's alright
There’s no point in tryin’ to fake it
Joy will come in its own time
Can’t churn it out on an assembly line
In the midst of hurts and troubled times
It lies waiting....
Chorus:
Hey, I got lost against a blue sky
Pressed shirts and silk ties
and nothing ever changes
But you and I were made for more than smiles
Honey, we don't live in the house with the sunflowers.

Down There By the Train
05:16
|
|||
There's a place I know where the train goes slow
Where the sinner can be washed in the blood of the lamb
There's a river by the trestle down by sinner's grove
Down where the willow and the dogwood grow
You can hear the whistle, you can hear the bell
From the halls of heaven to the gates of hell
And there's room for the forsaken if you're there on time
You'll be washed of all your sins and all of your crimes
If you're down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there where the train goes slow
There's a golden moon that shines up through the mist
And I know that your name can be on that list
There's no eye for an eye, there's no tooth for a tooth
I saw Judas Iscariot carrying John Wilkes Booth
He was down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
He was down there where the train goes slow
If you've lost all your hope, if you've lost all your faith
I know you can be cared for and I know you can be safe
And all the shamefuls and all of the whores
And even the soldier who pierced the side of the Lord
Is down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there where the train goes slow
Well, I've never asked forgiveness and I've never said a prayer
Never given of myself, never truly cared
I've left the ones who loved me and I'm still raising Cain
I've taken the low road and if you've done the same
Meet me down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there by the train
Down there where the train goes slow

I'm not the guy you call
When your lights go out
I've never been any good with my hands
I'm not the guy you call
When the big game is on
Don't have the patience to sit in the stands
I'm not the kind of guy you call
I'm not the kind of guy you call
I'm not the guy you call
To shoot the breeze
Don't pay attention the word on the street
I'm not the guy you call
When your heart's all broke
Won't hear no silver linings from me
I'm not the kind of guy you call
I'm not the kind of guy you call
And so I keep to myself
and I pass the time
Haunt the alleys and walk through the walls
And, pray the Lord, "Let me be!
Don't ask too much of me.
I'm not the kind of guy you call."
I'm not the kind of guy, oh so don’t even try.
I'm not the kind of guy you call.

Dweller By A Dark Stream
04:54
|
|||
It could have been me who put the thorns in Your crown
Rooted as I am in violent ground
How many times have I turned Your promise down
Still You pour out Your love
Pour out Your love
I was a dweller by a dark stream
A crying heart hooked on a dark dream
In my convict soul I saw Your love gleam
And you showed me what You've done
Jesus, thank-you joyous Son
You entered a life like ours to give us back our own
You wanted us like You, as choosers not clones
You offered up Your flesh and death was overthrown
Now salvation is ours,
Salvation is ours
I was a dweller by a dark stream
A crying heart hooked on a dark dream
In my convict soul I saw Your love gleam
And You showed me what You've done
Jesus, thank-you joyous Son
So when I'm walking this prison camp world
I long for a glimpse of the new world unfurled
The chrysalis cracking and moisten wings uncurled
Like in the vision John saw
The vision John saw
I was a dweller by a dark stream
A crying heart hooked on a dark dream
In my convict soul I saw Your love gleam
And You showed me what You've done
Jesus, thank-you joyous Son
Jesus, thank-you

We Come
02:41
|
|||
Our hearts are empty without You.
Barren and cold,
But for the bold
Hope that You Yourself
Have planted within.
Chorus:
In the mighty name of God
In the saving name of Jesus,
In the strong name of the Spirit,
We come, we cry,
We watch, we wait,
We look, we long for You
And sometimes we long for the morning
For a refrain
From etchings in pain,
Yet our loneliness
Draws us to You
